Be a Volunteer

The easiest way to get involved in the SFU chapter is to become a volunteer for our events. The not only provides a hands-on experience in helping the community, but may also involve oportunities to plan, coordinate, and organize activites. Join our mailing list to receive volunteer notices.

Donations

Monetary donations are welcome from individuals who would like to help make EWB happen. Cheques for charitable donations should be made out to "EWB Canada". A receipt will be issued by the EWB Canada National Office. Donations over $20 are tax deductible.

Be a Sponsor or Partner

If your company , foundations, or organization is interested in supporting our development efforts, you are welcome to sponsor us. This may include funding support, in-kind donations, and partnerships in organizing and funding events. To find out more about such opportunities, contact us.

Professional Involvement

At the chapter level, professionals have the unique opportunity to work closely with students to learn from and contribute to both the chapter and EWB in a variety of ways. Professionals may help through monetary and in-kind donations, as well as give advice and assistance for fundraising and community awareness activities. Professionals are also welcome to speak at events and workshops.

Be an Exec

There are currently many leadership positions available within our chapter.
Being a member of our chapter executive gives you an opportunity to:

  • link the university and local community in developing sustainibility in rural villiages, and work together to allow these communities to gain access to essential technologies;

  • learn more about world development, appropriate technology, sustainable development, and to educate and raise awareness at the university and in the community about such issues;

  • work with professors and staff at SFU, and with professionals, corporations, and other non-governmental organizations towards a common goal;

  • use your skills in a meaningful way;

  • learn more about charities and non-governmental organizations;

  • learn about being on an executive committee;

  • develop leadership skills;

  • take charge; you set the goals and you do what it takes to achieve them.

Join EWB

You can become a member of EWB using the online form here. Be sure to choose "Simon Fraser University Chapter" in the 'Chapter you wish to join' section so that we can contact you.

There are three types of memberships for interested individuals:

Associate Membership

Associate membership is open to any individual. You will be added to the EWB-SFU mailing list and will have access to to all chapter events. You are also welcome to come to our meetings and volunteer in any of our events. However, associate members are not eligible to hold executive positions nor are they eligible to vote in elections. There is no cost involved in becoming an associate member.

Regular Membership (students)

Regular membership for students in EWB-SFU is open to any SFU student showing an interest in furthering the objectives of EWB. Note that this means you do not have to be an engineering student to join. The benefits of being a regular student member is the same as being a regular member. EWB requires a membership fee is CDN$20.00 for regular student members, and memberships must be renewed after one year.

Regular Membership (professionals)

Regular membership for professionals in EWB-SFU is open to anyone who is not an SFU student, but reside in the Greater Vancouver Region showing an interest in furthering the objectives of EWB. You will be placed on the chapter mailing list and will have access to all chapter events. You will also be eligible for most internships and go overseas with an EWB project team, and will be eligible to hold executive positions in the organization and be eligible to vote in elections. EWB requires a membership fee is CDN$40.00 for regular members, and memberships must be renewed after one year.
